Steroid injections in the treatment of Dupuytren’s

When you think about steroids, you probably think of some bodybuilding scheme. However, if you suffer from Dupuytren’s contracture, steroids can actually be very helpful.

Corticosteroid, or steroid, injections are used to help treat Dupuytren’s contracture disease as it is injected into the nodules of the affected area. The steroid helps to reduce inflammation of the nodules, which reduces pain or swelling. However, patients are required to have regular, repeated injections to get relief.

Side effects

While the injection provides relief, it also has serious side effects. Like most treatments, there are risks involved. The cortisone injections may cause your blood sugar level to rise, tendons to rupture, and the pigmentation of your skin to change. These symptoms are why some doctors may not suggest using this form of treatment.

Replacement procedures

The treatment of Dupuytren’s contracture disease is not limited to steroid injections. There are other forms of treatment, both surgical or non-surgical. You can use anti-inflammatory medicines or get enzyme injections that soften the chord, which then allows the doctor to break the chord, which in turn allows movement and flexibility. You can also opt to get surgery, during which your doctor may make an incision or use a hypodermic needle to separate the diseased part of the chord.

Or you can also use Dupuytren’s wand & Tape, it is a non-surgical treatment that is inexpensive and painless. Dupuytren’s wand & Tape can provide a comfortable and consistent stretch to the finger and helps gently restore your range of motion. You can use the Dupuytren’s Wand at home and the tape is easy to put on yourself. These methods have less risk involved than steroid injections.
