A lot of people try to find an easy way out from medical conditions and hope that they will go away by themselves in time.
However, for most medical conditions, including Dupuytren’s Disease, this will not happen. Dupuytren’s nodules may take some time to develop, and Dupuytren’s Contracture symptoms may take some time to show, but it does not mean that the swelling in the palm tendons will decrease by itself.
Can Dupuytren’s Disease go away by itself?
According to the Medicine Cabinet, one of the most frequently asked questions about Dupuytren’s Disease is whether or not it can go away on its own. The answer given is a simple definite no, however, some methods can slow the progress and can allow one to live a fairly Dupuytren’s Disease free life.
- Dupuytren’s Disease is not known to go away on its own and leaving it untreated could lead to more challenging consequences related to the disease. Dupuytren’s Disease is a slowly progressive disease, and it may take some time for Dupuytren’s nodules to develop and the palm tendons to harden, causing the finger to bend.
- Thinking that it will go away by itself can be extremely damaging. Where treatment itself cannot completely eliminate the disease, it cannot be healed by itself. Treatment helps to manage the symptoms to decrease them over time.
- Home remedies tend to decrease the severity of the condition. Using a splint, a brace, or Dupuytren’s Tape can gently relax the muscles and allow movement of the fingers again.
While Dupuytren’s Disease cannot entirely be treated on its own, some preventive measures can be taken to decrease its progress.
*It is always important to speak with your physician before beginning any new treatment or physical therapy for Dupuytren’s Contracture.
